AUBURN – Mat Gordan walked, made it to second on a pass ball, then Ryan Arnold brought him home with a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning as Auburn Suburban Little League defeated Gardiner 1-0 in the major division (11-12).

Gordan pitched six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and three walks, while striking out 11.

Arnold, with two singles, was the lone player with more than one hit. A.J. Poulin had ASLL’s only other hit.

Kirsten Prue pitched two strong innings in relief and made a fine, diving stop at third base that possibly saved the game. Tim Mains also played well defensively at second.

Gardiner’s Ben Kelley pitched six scoreless innings, giving up three hits and five walks and had 15 strikeouts.

Auburn’s next game is Thursday, July 15, at 5:30 p.m. against the winner of Augusta West and Waterville, location TBA. Gardiner’s next game is Tuesday, July 13, at 5:30 vs TBA, at Augusta East.
