I am writing this letter to the editor in order to commend the various police departments that were instrumental in assisting the motorcade that carried my nephew, Army Spc. Beau Beaulieu, to his final place of rest at the Togus veterans cemetery in Augusta. The guidance that these officers provided was exemplary in a time of great mourning and sorrow to the Beaulieu family.

I would also like to thank the great people of Maine who stood along the way from Lisbon Falls to Augusta to pay their final respects to a great young American soldier who gave his life for our great country, fighting for what we all believe in: freedom.

Thanks also to Gov. Baldacci and all the people involved in Beau’s funeral arrangements. Their assistance during this blue period for our family and nation was expedited with all the dignity and honor such a great young American soldier richly deserved for his ultimate sacrifice. The actions by all involved greatly inspired me and reestablished my faith in the United State of America and its wonderful people.

Albert L. Beaulieu, Belgrade
