LEWISTON – The Toy Library of Lewiston will hold a fund-raiser on Saturday, July 24, outside at the United Baptist Church, 250 Main St. All proceeds will benefit The Toy Library, A Place for Kids. Event will include food, games with prizes and bounce house. Tickets are available to play games and purchase food.
Gift baskets will be raffled featuring gift certificates. All proceeds from the raffle will go to The Toy Library. Those interested in co-sponsoring, donating gift certificates or items for the event should contact Tina Rousseau at 212-3992.
Distribution Day
AUBURN – Auburn AC Serve (SHARE), part of Serve New England’s food and volunteer program, will have its Distribution Day from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 24, at the Auburn Advent Christian Church, Whitney Street entrance. Registrations for August will be taken. New and former participants in the Serve program are welcome. Those interested should call Janet at 784-2164.
Finance planning
WAYNE – Gary Melville, director of development for the United Methodist Foundation, will lead a discussion about personal financial planning and second-half-of-life issues from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 26, at the Wayne Community Church, Old Winthrop Road.
Melville has more than 20 years of experience in the financial planning field. He will discuss such topics as wills and trusts, long-term care, gift planning, maximizing income and reducing taxes. His presentation is free and open to the public and involves no solicitation.
The event is being sponsored by the church Finance Committee. Light refreshments will be provided.
College planning
LEWISTON – Maine Educational Opportunity Center counselor Christy Le will conduct a workshop on the “Essentials of College Planning” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, at the Lewiston Career Center, 5 Mollison Dr. To register, call 1-800-281-3703.
Adults considering college are invited to participate in the free workshop sponsored by the Maine Educational Opportunity Center.
The center helps adult students overcome class, social, academic and cultural barriers to higher education. MEOC services include assistance in choosing a college; tutoring; personal and financial counseling; career counseling; assistance in applying to college; workplace and college visits; and assistance in applying for financial aid.
85th birthday
TURNER – The family of Elizabeth Brown of Turner gathered recently to celebrate her 85th birthday.
Her five children attended: Randy Brown, Augusta; James Brown, Turner; Sharon Call, Greene; Connie Mower, Greene; and William Brown, Scarborough.
Mrs. Brown was born on Upper Street in Turner and has lived in Turner all her life. She was married to Ernest P. Brown, who died in 1986.
She has 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and one sister, Ruth Lind, also of Turner.
