LIVERMORE FALLS – The town office will close at noon on Wednesday because of the special election. The polls will be open at the fire station from noon until 8 p.m.

Voters will select one selectman for term ending in June, and vote in an opinion poll that asks: “Do you favor a moratorium on adult-only businesses?”

Town Manager Alan Gove said that since one of the office staffers is on vacation, the selectmen felt the office should be closed Wednesday afternoon. That will allow the town clerk and the registrar of voters both to be at the polls.

“Only in a rare case do we close early,” Gove said. “We don’t want to inconvenience people who come in during what is routinely open hours. On the other hand, we don’t have trained spare workers for the office, so when two jobs coincide and a staff member is out, it is difficult to man all posts.”
