AUBURN – Martha Caldwell Turner, 88, of Auburn went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ, Sunday, July 18.


She was born March 26, 1916, in Auburn, a daughter of Allen and Mae (Welner) Caldwell. She was a graduate of Edward Little High School, class of 1934.


In June of 1937, she married Reginald F. Turner. They lived their lives together in the Lewiston/Auburn area. For many years she not only worked hard in her home, but also in local businesses. She was a Personnel Manager of F.W. Woolworth, office worker at Montgomery Wards and then worked for 20 years in the Classified Retail Advertising Departments of the Sun Journal. She retired in 1978. Mr. Turner passed away in May of 1994.


Mrs. Turner was a loving, soft spoken lady. She was greatly loved by her large family of six children, eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was not only devoted to her family, but to all the family’s pets, especially in recent years to Ben and Minnie Mae. Also she tenderly nourished unknown numbers of birds and squirrels. She was often referred to as “Snow White.”


Mrs. Turner was a member of the Stevens Mills Church now known as Sovereign Grace Chapel in Auburn.


Mrs. Turner is survived by three sons, Robert and his wife, Gail, of Auburn, Dan, of Auburn and his fiancee, Fern, of Wisconsin, and John and his wife, Sue, of Poland Spring; three daughters, Linda Roman, of Auburn, Marianne Ireland and Cheryl Turner, of Lewiston; eight grandchildren, Michael Turner and his wife, Sarah, Randy Turner, Kelly Perry and her husband, Frank all of Turner, Marcy Yirrell and her husband, Tim, of Minot, Krissy Turner, of South Portland, Ryan Turner and his wife, Shelly, of Smyrna, Ga., Katie Ireland and her fianc, Elvis Campobasso, of Scarborough, Shalimar Roman and her fianc, Darrin Cloutier, of Lewiston; one stepgranddaughter, Lisa Clark, of Auburn; 13 great-grandchildren, Seth, Arica, Dylan and Danny Turner and Jade Perry, all of Turner, Nate Turner, Sarah and Emily Turner of Lewiston, Shayla-Mae Sabine, Sean-Micah Sabine, Cameron and Talon Gilbert, all of Lewiston, Kayla Yirrell, of Minot; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Kaleb and Aurora Clark, of Auburn; and many nieces and nephews. She also extended her love toward very special people such as Reta Turner, Dorothy Alto, Nancy Sidelinger Johnson and Carol Gilbert.


She was predeceased by her parents; five brothers, Sydney, Harold, Ralph, Tom and Allen Caldwell; four sisters, Mary Caldwell, Bertha Harris, Myrtle Baron and Ruth Estes.
