LEWISTON – The Androscoggin Chorale is inviting singers to perform in the upcoming concert season. Auditions will be held on the evenings of July 29, Aug. 18 and Sept. 2.

The chorus will prepare three concert programs, including Handel’s ever-popular “Messiah” with the Maine Chamber Ensemble.

In March, two American works for chorus and percussion lead a stimulating variety of choral styles that include “Five Childhood Lyrics” by John Rutter. The May concert will offer a rare opportunity to perform the expansive “Requiem” of Charles Gounod, renowned as a composer of French grand opera.

The adult, mixed-voice Androscoggin Chorale rehearses Thursday evenings at the First Universalist Church in Auburn. Performances are in Lewiston, Portland and Norway.

Singers are nonprofessional musicians but are motivated to work toward professional standards.

To schedule an audition or for information, people can call the Maine Music Society at 782-1403.
