L/A Arts’ Music in the Parks summer concert series will continue Tuesday, Aug. 3, with a perforance by Jordan Benissan and his African music ensemble Sankofa at noon in Festival Plaza on Main Street in Auburn.

Thursday, Aug. 5, country musician Don Campbell will be joined by Tonya Shevenell on bass and Andy Happel on fiddle at Courthouse Plaza in Lewiston, also at noon.

Benissan is a member of the Ewe People. He was introduced to music and dance at an early age through ceremonies and rituals. He received his traditional music training from several West African master drummers. He has taught and performed for all ages.

Recently, Benissan gave two concerts of traditional African drumming and Highlife music with master drummer Obo Addy at Colby College, and performed with the Portland Symphony orchestra in a two-day program.

A self-taught multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, Campbell’s fresh but familiar voice has taken him from his hometown of Scarborough to his second home in Nashville, Tenn., and just about everywhere in between.
