AUBURN – Dorothy Bearce Eichorn, 99, formerly of Bearce Avenue, Lewiston, died Thursday, July 29, at Clover Manor.

She was born in Lewiston, May 20, 1905, the daughter of Mae Ethelyn Hutchinson and George Edward Bearce. She graduated from Jordan High School, studied briefly at Boston University, and went on to the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where she studied piano and majored in dramatics.

Back in Lewiston in 1940, she called together a small group of friends interested in theater and Community Little Theater was founded.

In 1943, she married J. Grover Eichorn. He died in 1965.

In the 1950s, the Bates Manufacturing Company presented a series of historical plays at WCOU, and she became a member of the local radio cast.

She was a life member of the Woman’s Hospital Association at Central Maine Medical Center, and spent 23 years as a volunteer there. She was also an active member of the Lewiston/Auburn Arts and Literature Club, and the YWCA.

She leaves a step-daughter, Gretchen E. Facq and her husband, John, of Bound Brook, N.J.; two grandchildren, Mariette Facq Levine and her husband, Daniel, of Fan Wood, N.J., and Christian A. Facq and his wife, Barbara, of South Orange, N.J.; three great-grandchildren, Alexander Facq, Leah Levine, and David Levine.

She was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Saunders, in 1996.
