ROXBURY – Four people were injured – two seriously – in a 2:40 p.m. Sunday crash on Route 17.

State police Trooper Kyle Tilsley said Sunday evening that he couldn’t release the victims’ names until he had finished notifying their next of kin.

All are in their early 20s, he said, and three are from Lewiston. The fourth is from Portland, the trooper added.

He said the two victims most seriously injured were ejected from the 1996 Saturn sedan they were riding in. Each was taken to the trauma center at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston by LifeFlight of Maine air ambulance.

Without the victims’ names being available, CMMC spokespeople can’t release patient information, such as conditions.

Tilsley said he was told their conditions at the time of transport “didn’t look good.”

A third passenger was said to have suffered lesser injuries, but the extent wasn’t known Sunday night.

A fourth passenger, a woman, was talking with medical care providers at Rumford Community Hospital after the crash, Tilsley said.

The trooper said the wreck remains under investigation. He said driver inattention, driver inexperience and unfamiliarity could all have played a role in the crash.
