NORWAY – The Norway Historical Society will sponsor a talk by Larry Glatz on C.A. Stephens at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21. The meeting will be held at the Society Building on Main Street and refreshments will be served.

Library program

LOVELL – The monthly speaker at the Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library will be . Sachiko Tsuchiya, who will give an illustrated talk on “Japan and its Culture” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24.

Born in Japan, and educated in Geneva and London, Tsuchiya is an art dealer and gallery owner in Tokyo. She travels the world for her profession and has been vacationing in Lovell for the last four years.

The public is welcome. Refreshments will be served. For more info call the library at 925-3177.

Bible school ends

WEST PARIS – The West Paris Daily Vacation Bible School recently held its closing program followed by a lunch at the West Paris Baptist Church. The school was sponsored by the West Paris Baptist and Mission Congregational churches and the Child Evangelism Fellowship. The leader was Marilyn Noyes.

WEST PARIS – A musical recital was held at the West Paris Baptist Church recently under the direction of Cheryl Broberg Bacon.

Musicians included Julia Ferguson, piano; Joseph Lewis, piano; Laurie Philips, violin; Samantha Hieno, piano; Dennis Sanborn, piano; Taylor Tyrrell, violin; Kyle Webster, piano; Emilia Fogg, violin; Alex Ferguson, guitar; Dillon Frechette, violin; Sheena Lewis, piano; Alle Phillips, alto saxophone; Jordyn Sanborn, piano; Eileen Broberg, violin; and Andy Polland, piano.

School reunion

SUMNER – The Sumner School reunion will be held starting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at the West Sumner Church. There will be a social time followed by a potluck dinner. Those attending should bring a gift for the door prize.

Whale watch

OXFORD – The Oxford Hills AARP, friends and families, is participating in a trip to Rye, N.H., for an afternoon whale watch on Saturday, Sept. 11. An experienced naturalist will be on board to talk about whales. Whale sightings are guaranteed.

Bring along a boxed lunch, drinks, warm jacket, hats and scarves, cameras and also motion sickness medication.

Adult rate is $63, child (4-16) rate is $53 (3 and under free). The bus, the cruise and dinner at the Weathervane Restaurant in Kittery is included. The bus leaves at 8:30 a.m. from the old Ames Plaza in Oxford and will return at 8:30 p.m.
