SOUTH PARIS – Pauline Thurlow Glover of 105 High St., South Paris, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Market Square Health Care Facility. She would have been 93 on Sunday, Aug. 22.

Born in South Paris, Aug. 22, 1911, the daughter of Josiah Augustus and Reba Harnden Thurlow, she graduated from South Paris High School in 1929, and the Maine School of Commerce in Portland.

She was employed as a bookkeeper and stenographer at Ripley and Fletcher Co. and in later years after raising her family, she worked in the office at the Oxford Pickle Co., 10 years for the Oxford P of H Grange Insurance and at Bolster’s Dry Goods.

She married James R. Glover of Hebron in 1936. They resided on Gothic Street in South Paris before moving to their home on High Street in 1945. Mr. Glover was a lifelong employee of Ripley and Fletcher and died May 2, 1989, at the age of 80, after 52 years of marriage.

In February 1944, Mrs. Glover entertained a group of friends at her home and formed a new group, calling themselves the “Christmas Club.” These 12 friends continued to meet throughout their lives. One of the last gatherings was 58 years later on Nov. 20, 2002 at Maurice’s Restaurant, with six members attending. In addition to her participation in the Christmas Club, Mrs. Glover was an avid reader and frequent visitor to the Paris Public Library.

She is survived by two sons, N. Richard Glover and his wife, Margaret, of Chesapeake City, Md., and Raymond Glover and his wife, Darlene, of South Paris, with whom she made her home; three grandchildren, Sally Kabatt, John Glover and Allyssa Maurice; and five great-grandchildren, Lauren and Kristen Kabatt, Christopher and Andrew Glover and Nicholas Maurice.
