I would like to give voters in Lewiston some direct feedback as to a candidate’s experience with the state of Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices. and thank the many individuals who have supported and encouraged me in becoming a Clean Elections candidate.
I have enjoyed the experience of directly seeking support to run as a Clean Elections candidate from people within Lewiston’s District 74. This is inherent in the Clean Election process.
It is important. too, to let all voters know that while the Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices is a relatively new entity, the staff is very helpful and a great resource to all candidates. They help to make our elections process transparent so voters can directly monitor candidate activities. It is also important to note the role of our city clerks in making this process valid, by verification that supporters are indeed registered individuals (not political action committees, special interest groups, etc.) in the candidate’s district.
I’m excited to participate in our political process.
John L. Painter, Lewiston
