AUGUSTA – Richard Joseph Malone, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Portland, will be the guest speaker at the Pro Life Education Association’s annual recognition luncheon.

The luncheon will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Senator Inn. Those to be recognized for their pro-life efforts include ABBA, a Women’s Resource Center, Patricia DeGrinney and Paulie Heath.

Lecture at USM

PORTLAND – Dr. Bowman Miller will present a lecture, “The U.S. and Europe: In the Aftermath of Iraq,” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, in the Moot Court Room of the Law School Building, University of Southern Maine. The lecture, preceded by an informal reception at 6 p.m., is free and open to the public.

Miller is director of the Office of Analysis for Europe for the Bureau of Intelligence and Research of the Department of State. Miller, who earned his doctorate at Georgetown University, previously served as a U.S. Air Force officer specializing in counterintelligence and terrorism analysis, attaining the rank of major.

Conference set

SOUTH PORTLAND – Dolores E. Ellis, president, will preside at the Maine Association of Parliamentarians Educational Conference on Saturday, Sept. 18, at Governor’s Restaurant, 700 Main St.

Jesus rally

BANGOR – “Revealing the Face of Jesus!” is the theme of the Jesus rally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Bangor Auditorium by the Portland Diocesan Catholic Charismatic Renewal Service Committee.

Ralph Martin, Catholic lay evangelist and international conference speaker, will present three sessions at the event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will conclude with a healing service led by the Rev. Richard P. Rice of Bath.

Volunteers needed

FALMOUTH – Maine Audubon needs volunteers to lead guided nature walks at Fore River Audubon Sanctuary in Portland, Gilsland Farm Audubon Center in Falmouth and Mast Landing Audubon Sanctuary in Freeport.

The “Exploring the Secrets of Nature” programs for groups of all ages are offered in the morning and early afternoon Monday through Friday from mid-September through November.

No previous knowledge or teaching experience is necessary. Volunteers will learn teaching techniques and forest and wetland ecology, and can learn how to lead an entire walk or just a few stations at one or all sites.

Introductory training and information sessions for new volunteers will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon Friday, Sept. 10, at Gilsland Farm Audubon Center in Falmouth and Sept. 15, 27 and 28 at Mast Landing Audubon Sanctuary in Freeport. Introductory sessions will also be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 4 and 6 at Fore River Audubon Sanctuary in Portland.
