AUBURN – Bob Mennealy will seek another term on the Auburn City Council, as well as a position on the Androscoggin County Commission.

“The two positions really are complementary, given that Auburn taxpayers have a large stake in the Androscoggin County budget,” Mennealy said.

He announced his intention this week to run for re-election to the council and to become the Androscoggin County commissioner for District 2, which includes Auburn, Minot, Poland and Mechanic Falls.

Mennealy’s goals for a second term as a city councilor are to continue his quest to make city government more accessible to the common citizen.

“Citizens have a right to question and participate in governmental decisions,” he said. “The fact that Auburn city government has in the past been seen by many to be aloof from the common citizen is a challenge that hopefully will be overcome in the next couple of years.”

According to Mennealy, Auburn needs to strive for broad-based economic development that would provide quality full-time jobs and a broadened tax base that would take some pressure off residential taxpayers.

Mennealy has a bachelor’s degree in government, and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Maine. He has worked in the private and public sectors and has served on the University of Maine L-A Advisory Committee and the Auburn Sewer District Board during his term as a city councilor.
