MONMOUTH – Elaine A. McLaughlin, 70, a resident of Cobbessee Road, Monmouth, died Monday, Sept. 6, at her daughter’s residence in Monmouth where she had made her residence for two years.
She was born in Shirley Mills, on Nov. 10, 1933, the daughter of Earle and Effie (Jewell) Sherman. She graduated from Gardiner High School and then received her RN at University of Maine Augusta, School of Nursing.
On Jan. 3, 1951, she married Paul McLaughlin, he passed away in August of 1991. She worked as a registered nurse at several locations during her career, retiring from Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan in 1995. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Mormons in Winthrop and Skowhegan.
She enjoyed raising sheep, shearing, carding, spinning and then knitting the wool. She was the organist for the church of the Latter Day Saints in Winthrop.
She is survived her daughter, Edith McCabe and her husband, Stephen, of Monmouth; two sons, Paul McLaughlin and his wife, Arlene, of Cornville and Timothy McLaughlin and his wife, Karen, of Benton; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her sister, M. Karlene McLaughlin and her husband, George, of Gardiner.
