PORTLAND – Gerard A. Desjardins, 81, of 211 Randall Road, Lewiston and formerly of Pinewoods Road in Lisbon died Sunday evening, Sept. 5, at Maine Medical Center with his family by his side.

He was born in Lewiston Sept. 28, 1922, the son to Adelmor and Emeline Toutant Desjardins. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy.

On May 21, 1945, he married the former Muriel M. Jalbert. She died July 17, 1990. He was self-employed where he owned and operated the Lisbon Trading Post in Lisbon Falls until his retirement in 1978.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister, member of the Knights of Columbus Lisbon Falls and life-member of the American Legion Post 158. Among his interests were horseback riding, traveling with his family and playing cribbage with his cribbage club.

He is survived by his companion and dear friend, Ernestine Menkevich, of Lewiston; his three daughters, Mrs. John (Irene) Tobin, of Lisbon, Mrs. Nunzio (Jeanne) Trazzera, of Titusville, Fla., and Mrs. Hal (Lorraine) Chase, of Lisbon; three sons, Raymond G. and his wife, Pauline Desjardins, of Lewiston, Richard H. and his wife, Rose Desjardins, of Summerfield, Fla., and Roland P. and his wife, Gloria Desjardins, of Trophy Club, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
