RUMFORD – Police arrested a Dunkin’ Donuts employee late Monday afternoon, charging him with burglarizing the Congress Street business on Aug. 22, and stealing more than $3,000.

Rodney A. Kneeland, 30, of Rumford turned himself in to investigating officer, Detective Sgt. Stacy Carter, at about 5 p.m. He then allegedly confessed to the crime during a police interview, Carter said Friday night.

Kneeland was subsequently charged with felony burglary and felony theft. He failed to post bail of either $500 cash or $5,000 surety, and was transported to Oxford County Jail in Paris.

Kneeland is to be arraigned on Nov. 2 in Rumford District Court.

At 6:05 a.m. on Aug. 23, a Dunkin’ Donuts employee reported that the business had been burglarized and a substantial amount of money taken. At that time, police believed that the money – $3,600 – was stolen sometime after the shop closed at 9 p.m. on Aug. 22 and before it opened at 6 a.m. the following day.

There were no signs of forced entry to the outside doors, but an inside door to the office had been forced open.

Carter said Kneeland, whom police believe acted alone, was working at the Rumford doughnut shop at the time of the burglary.

Police are still searching for the money.
