CAPE ELIZABETH – The 34th annual reunion of the Walker family, descendants of Jay and Marion Walker of Sabattus, was held Aug. 7 at Crescent Beach State Park in Cape Elizabeth. Also present were the descendants of Edward Walter Walker, brother of Jay Walker. There were 120 present.

Lunch began at 11:30. Pictures from last year’s reunion were on display. Swimming and volleyball as well as a balloon toss were held. Teens organized a scavenger hunt for the younger children and a 50/50 drawing was held. Sweatshirts and T-shirts with the Walker logo were also available to order for next year’s reunion.

The oldest member present was Helen Morrill, 79, of Auburn, and the youngest, 3-week-old Colby Davis of Lebanon.

The reunion committee, consisting of Jo-Ellen Larkin and Janet Eustis of Auburn, will be joined next year by Geri Smith of New Hampshire and Julie Rowe of Auburn.

Rand Jones family

MONTVILLE – Descendants from John and Mary Rand Jones met at the home of Elmin and Edna Jones Mitchell recently.

The youngest attending was Jessie Stacy and oldest was Andrew Pratt. Traveling the greatest distance were a couple from the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam. Communications from distant relatives were read.

The next reunion will be Aug. 21 at the home of Andrew and Dawn Pratt in Strong.

Tanguay gathering

BERLIN, N.H. – The Mary and Arthur Tanguay families held their third reunion at the Eagles field on July 31. The last one was held in 1999. Ninety-seven family members were present.

Each family attending was assigned a colored T-shirt with the family coat-of-arms and reunion date. A meal of hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, casseroles and desserts was held.

Group pictures were taken of every family by Donna Tanguay Folsom of Albany, Maine. Games for young and old included softball, horseshoes, volleyball, apply dunking, balloon tosses and three-legged races. Karaoke and music were supplied by Jess Tanguay of Thomaston, Conn.

The oldest descendant attending was Richard Tanguay of Hanover, Mass. Youngest was Dylan Dion, 9 weeks, son of John and Mary Dion of Cleveland, Ohio. Irene Tieva of Ovo Valley, Ariz., traveled the farthest. The Alphee Tanguay and Louis Tanguay families had the largest number attending, 22 members each.

There have been three 50th wedding anniversaries celebrated and 10 25th wedding anniversaries in the second generation. In the last two years, four great-grandchildren were born. A Mass in memory of the deceased members was held on Aug. 1 at the Holy Family Church in Gorham.

Francis family

DIXFIELD – The Francis family reunion was held Aug. 14 at the Mountain View Campground with about 100 family members attending from many towns in Maine and as far away as Florida, California, Texas, Tennessee, New Hampshire and Connecticut. A potluck lunch was held, with conversation and photo-taking for the adults and games for the children.

The oldest attending was Harry Francis, 88, of Dixfield, and the youngest was 2 months. The 50/50 was won by Terry Frost.

The next reunion will be held Aug. 12, 2006, at the Mountain View Campground.

Buotte gathering

ROXBURY – The Buotte family reunion was held at the home of Bruce and Lisette Waugh, Roxbury Pond, on Aug. 21. A potluck lunch was served for 68 followed by an auction with Steve Buotte as auctioneer.

Winner of this year’s cribbage tournament was Bruce Waugh; horseshoe tournament, Steve Buotte and Eugene Buotte; and 50/50, Steve Buotte Youngest in attendance was Caitlin Langervine of Dixfield and oldest was Robert Kellogg of Rumford.

Family members traveling the farthest were Steve and Sue Buotte of New Port Richey, Fla. Others traveled from Mexico, Rumford, Dixfield, Turner, Auburn, Skowhegan, Avon, Anson, Wayne, Clinton, Boothbay, Newport and Voluntown, Conn. Events was capped with karaoke by Bill and Betsy Lynn of Wayne. Next year’s reunion will be held Aug. 20 at the same time and place.
