RUMFORD – SAD 43 has begun transporting Milton Township students to the district’s schools.

Buildings and grounds Director Tim Gallant told board members on Monday that a deal has been negotiated with the state to transport the township’s 17 youngsters. The district will receive $8,000 annually from the state, and a new school bus.

Because Milton Township is an unorganized territory, the responsibility for student transportation has been with the state.

Also at Monday’s board meeting, a meeting for the Personnel Committee to discuss the job descriptions for the district’s secretaries was set for Sept. 27. A Policy Committee meeting was also set for Sept. 27 to discuss a possible policy that would allow students to take home their school-issued laptop computers.

Cindy Grassette was appointed as majorette adviser at Mountain Valley High School and Greg Waite was named girls softball coach at the high school. The resignation of Meroby Elementary School special education teacher Stephanie Ross was accepted.

After the public portion of the meeting, the board entered into a closed session with Superintendent Jim Hodgkin to discuss a student matter.
