NORWAY – Beginner tai chi classes will be offered at Stephens Memorial Hospital from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for eight weeks beginning Sept. 27. Instructor will be Betsey Foster, who has studied tai chi and qu gong since the 1980s. She has taught since 1993, and is a student of Dr. Yang Jwing-ming of Boston. Benefit concert rehearsals
PARIS – Rehearsals for the Christmas for Teens benefit concert will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, in the Oxfords Hills Comprehensive High School music room. People who can sing any vocal parts are welcome; no experience is necessary. The chorus will sing a variety of holiday songs, but there is an opportunity for auditioned solos, ensembles and specialty numbers from chorus members.
School groups and faculty members are encouraged to participate. Christmas for Teens is in its fifth year. All proceeds from the Dec. 3 concert benefits area teens in need who are full-time students. More information may be obtained by calling Cynthia Wescott at 743-8914, ext. 1015.
Barbershop harmony
PARIS – The Hillsmen Chorus’ annual Barbershop Harmony Show will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. This year’s theme is “A Celebration of Sound.” In addition to the Hillsmen Chorus, there will be a performance by the Downeasters Chorus of Portland, said to be one of the best in New England.
Representing women’s barbershop harmony groups will be the Mollyockett Chorus from Bethel. Headlining the quartet lineup for the show will be High Definition and the Back Bay Four, both from Portland. In addition to these groups will be the County Chords from the Hillsmen Chorus, and three quartets from the Mollyocketts. The Hillsmen Chorus is seeking support from the Oxford Hills area business community and individuals.

House parties
Six house parties for U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud’s campaign will be held Sunday, Sept. 26, as part of the “Night of 100 House Parties.” Events will range from a bonfire in Albany Township to more conventional social events in Greenwood, Fryeburg, Norway, Hartford, Waterford, and Brownfield.
