NAPLES – The Lake Region Community Theatre announces that the cast for its fall production, “Only an Orphan Girl,” an old-fashioned melodrama, is complete.
Theater stalwarts, Paula and Chris Easton, will portray “Pa and Ma Perkins,” the rural couple who have adopted the orphan girl. Gaille Merrill, also well known to Lake Region audiences, will take the role of “Widow Appelby,” a neighbor and friend of the Perkins family.
Jessica Church, recently seen in Neil Simon’s play, “Plaza Suite,” at the Denmark Arts Center, will interpret “Ethel,” a sexy siren from the city. Carla Ricciuti will make her debut in the role of Nellie, the orphan girl. The dashing hero, Dick Perkins, will be portrayed by theater board member, Tim Lorrain. He was seen recently in “Plaza Suite” at Denmark.
“Versatile” is the word for well-known LRCT actor, Richard Dunlap. He has been awarded the role of Arthur Rutherford, the villain in the play. He will portray a black hearted scoundrel seeking to rob his orphaned niece of her fortune. The choice of Chris Molloy for the child role of “Lucy Appelby” completes the cast.
Co-Director Gordon Peaco said, “We are trying to re-create the atmosphere of the 19th-century theatre”‘ He said, “In those days troupes of traveling actors often used small mature adults for children’s roles.”
Master of Ceremonies, who will lead the community singing and introduce the Olio entertainment between the acts, will be Lonnie Westcott. The players will be supported by Priscilla Delehanty and Peter Terry at the pianoforte.
“Only an Orphan Girl” will be performed at the Casco Grange Hall on Oct. 22, 23 and 24. Tickets will cost $10 each and will be available soon.
