FARMINGTON – Becky Christiansen scored an unassisted first-half goal to propel the University of Maine at Farmington to a 1-0 win over Husson College Sunday afternoon.

Rachel Sheloske and Ashley Biette combined for four saves to record the victory.

Amherst 4, Bates 0

AMHERST, Mass. – Amherst College blanked Bates College 4-0 in field hockey action Sunday afternoon.

Erin Leydon scored a pair of goals while Lauren Anderson and Carolyn Shea added a goal apiece in the victory.

K.C. Cosentino and Kathleen Boucher combined for five saves to notch the shutout.

The Bobcats’ Sarah Judice was credited with 10 saves.

Men’s soccer

Bowdoin 1, Williams 0

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Tom Bresnehan scored the lone goal of the afternoon in the 30th minute of play to send Bowdoin College to a 1-0 win over Williams College in men’s soccer Sunday afternoon.

The goal came when the EPhs’ keeper Nick Armington deflected Mike Howard’s bid toward Bresneham, who had snuck in behind the defense on the left side of the field where he just had to tap the ball into the open net to score the decisive goal.

Women’s soccer

RIC 2, St. Joseph’s 0

STANDISH – Rhode Island College used a pair of first-half goals to hand St. Joseph’s College a 2-0 setback in women’s soccer action Sunday afternoon.

Caitlin Gavin scored an unassisted goal at 4:07 of the first half for the only goal the Anchormen would need to record the victory.

Gina Calendar added an insurance goal at 15:44 to account for the final score.

Williams 2, Bowdoin 1

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.- Jessie Freeman drilled the game-winning goal with just under three minutes left in regulation to lift Williams College to a 2-1 win over Bowdoin College in women’s soccer Sunday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (3-2) took the lead early in the second half when Ann Zeigler made a high shot into the upper right corner.

The Ephs’ Lindsey Dyer nailed a free kick into the lower left corner to tie the game, setting the stage for Freeman to secure the win.
