PARIS – A new art gallery, The Painted Mermaid Gallery, will welcome the public at a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, at 6 Briggs Ave. In addition, an open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 2 and 3. The gallery features Brenda Ellis Sauro’s paintings, giclee prints, cards, hand-painted furniture and mermaid art. Alzheimer’s Memory Walk
PARIS – The Maine Veterans’ Home at 447 High St. will host the Alzheimer’s Association’s Memory Walk titled Take Steps to End Alzheimer’s. It will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2. Registration will be held at 8 a.m. Last year’s Oxford Hills walk raised more than $10,000 to donate to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Anyone interested may participate by walking, donating cash or items such as gift certificates or products that will be awarded the walkers on the day of the walk.
A yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Community Concepts Inc. Adult Day Service, 98 High St. According to the association, there are nearly 4.5 million Americans afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease. More information may be obtained by calling 743-7716, extension 1803.
Scouts to hold car wash
OXFORD – There will be a Boy Scout bottle drive and car wash from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Oct. 3, at the American Legion, Route 121. Proceeds will be used for summer camp for the boys.
Candidates’ breakfast at UMF
FARMINGTON – The Western Maine Legislative Caucus will sponsor a candidates’ breakfast at 7 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at the University of Maine at Farmington in the Olsen Student Center.
The caucus will distribute its fourth copy of Western Maine candidates’ responses to a questionnaire about regional and state issues.
The Western Maine Legislative Caucus is a partnership of UMF, the Mission at the Eastward, SAD 9, the Franklin Community Health Network, Western Maine Community Action and the Alliance.

Norway selectmen meetings changed
NORWAY – The Board of Selectmen has changed its regular meeting schedule for October. The board will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 and at 7 p.m. Oct. 28. Both meetings will be held in the Norway town office. More information may be obtained by calling 743-6651.
