Even a hobbled Rimouski team without its star player was too much for the Lewiston Maineiacs on Sunday.

Former Sherbrooke Castors forward Dany Roussin and Marc-Antoine Pouliot tallied a goal and two assists each as the Oceanic (5-3-0-0) upended the Maineiacs 4-1 in Rimouski in front of 4,323 fans.

Cedrick Desjardins stopped 36 of 37 Lewiston shots, including 16 in the first period alone, to pick up the win. Jaroslav Halak played well in net for Lewiston (2-2-1-0) despite the loss, allowing four goals on 38 shots.

In the loss, Alex Bourret was held without a point for the first time this season, and the top line of Bourret, Alexandre Picard and Marc-Andre Cliche was held point-less. Picard did pick up an assist while the Maineiacs enjoyed a power play in the first period.

A team that feeds off of errors, the Oceanic capitalized on a big mistake by Brandon Roach in the first to jump out to a 1-0 lead.

Francis Charette stole the puck on a failed clearing attempt by Roach and broke in alone on Halak, slipping the puck by the prone netminder for the 1-0 lead at 14:08 of the first frame.

The Maineiacs responded with their only goal of the game two minutes later when Mathieu Aubin whacked home a rebound after Jonathan Paiement sent a shot toward Desjardins from the point. Picard had the first whack at it and missed, but Aubin picked up the loose puck to knot the score at one.

Despite several quality chances in the second period, Rimouski managed just one goal on 18 shots against Halak, and that came midway through the period on Roussin’s goal.

In the third, the Oceanic put the game out of reach on scores by Eric Neilson and Pouliot, and took advantage of several penalties to keep the speedy Lewiston forwards at bay.

The Maineiacs will return home this week before embarking on a long road trip next weekend to Rouyn-Noranda, Val d’Or and Gatineau.
