The Rebels have been hurt by unwanted calls and bad shots this season.
“We’re back having trouble hitting cage,” Rebel coach Gail Wight said.
After a overtime win against Hall Dale, there was a high degree of concern because only two of 26 shots found the cage.
“I think that the lack of scoring, after having so many opportunities, will come back to haunt them,” Wight said. The team can’t let up because even though we were ranked 1st in Heal Points, a loss in any of our final games could drop us down.”
Telstar isn’t satisfied with its lineup. The team has tinkered with player combinations in hopes of getting more production out the every player.
Illnesses have also hurt Telstar. Practice last week was cancelled because so many players were under the weather.
“I’m not whining,”Wight said. “I’ve just never had so many (players) sick at the same time. But, three road trips in a row and 50 players on a bus together for more than an hour and it spreads quick.”
Blue Devils short on goals
Lewiston’s scoring problems continue. The Blue Devils defeated Mt. Ararat and Brunswick, but the team is still not satisfied.
“The most we have scored is three goals in the Mt. Ararat game,”coach Norma Gardner said. “We seem to be a second half team but the first half hurts us so much that we can’t seem to recover.”
Kate Prideaux and Catlin Antoine each have two goals this season. Mina Moore, Danielle Lavoie, Amanda Wentworth, Renee Hamann and Lindsey Dostie each have one.
Marina MacDonald and Renee Hamann have both provided experience on the defensive end, along with Megan Hebert, a transfer from Oak Hill.
“I’m not sure where we would have been without them,”Gardner said.
Injuries have added up too. Lewiston’s starting goalie was out for two weeks with a badly broken finger, and Moore just returned to play after breaking her thumb. Four other players have been bitten by the injury bug.
