AUBURN – The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society announced the recipient of the Sarah Agren Youth Award on Sept. 20. Named for a late young volunteer of the Humane Society, the award is given to a young adult in the community who has shown an outstanding contribution of kindness and dedication to the humane ethic.

This year’s award was presented to Nicole Court-Menendez of Lewiston. For the past few years Nicole, a fifth-grader at Pettingill School in Lewiston, has taken the initiative to collect numerous donations on behalf of the homeless animals at the shelter.

“Nicole portrays a kindness toward animals, above and beyond our normal love for them” said Steven Dostie, shelter director. “Nicole has made a difference in the lives of many animals that come through our door and is a bright spot in the future of the Humane Society.”

The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society is located at 3312 Hotel Road. Anyone interested in learning more about volunteering at the shelter or adopting an animal can call 783-2311 or visit the Web site at www.gahumane.org.
