LEWISTON – Gerard J. Roy, 87, of Jefferson Street, Lewiston, died at St. Mary’s Hospital Sunday, Oct. 10.

He was born in St. Honore P.I. Quebec on April 8, 1917, the son of Alphonse and Marie Bolduc Roy. He was educated in Canada, graduating from Christian Brothers College with a certificate in teaching.

He served in the United States Army from 1942 until 1946, and worked as a medical technician stationed in the Phillipines.

On Aug. 10, 1946, he married the former Georgette Bernier, and together they settled down to raise their family. Mr. Roy was employed by the United States Postal Service as a clerk, retiring in 1979 after 33 years of service.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Church, the Holy Name Society, and the American Legion Post 22.

He enjoyed bowling with his friends in the Senior Citizen League, attending Mass as often as possible, and spending time in the company of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Pauline Nadeau of Waterville, and Louise Mecervier and her husband, Richard, of Greene; two sons, Gerard A. Roy and significant other, Jamie Stallings, of San Diego, Calif., and Marcel Roy and his wife, Carol, of Lewiston; 10 grandchildren, John and Andrew Nadeau, Cathy Matthews and her husband, Chuck, Dr. Steven Martel, Scott Martel and his wife, Heather, Jennifer Casey and her husband, Tom, Jeremy Mecervier, Matthew Roy and his wife, Claudette, PVT 2 Nicole Roy, United States Army, and Jenn Roy; and eight great-grandchildren, Nick, Nate, Samantha, Colby, Scott, Jasmine, Corbin, and Adrianna.

He was predeceased by his wife, Georgette, in 1979, after 32 years of marriage; 16 brothers and sisters; and a son-in-law, Raymond Nadeau.
