ON DISPLAY AT BATES: Photographs taken by Ryan Heffernan of the 2004 grape harvests in Mendoza, Argentina, and Napa, Calif., are on display through Oct. 18 at Bates College in Lewiston. Titled “Portraits of the Harvest,” the exhibit of images taken by the Bates senior is in Chase Hall Gallery and Chase Lounge. “Within the context of a photographic essay, I sought a greater understanding of the lives of the harvesters who are truly the backbone of the wine industry,” said Heffernan, who is majoring in studio art.
