FARMINGTON – Agricultural Education Day was held Sept. 20 at the Farmington Fair. A total of approximately 1,100 students, teachers and chaperones were in attendance and approximately 70 volunteers participated.

More than 30 stations were available where children could learn about various agricultural activities.

From Franklin County, participating schools included Academy Hill School, 19 students; Central Elementary, 58; Cape Cod Hill School, 88; Cushing School, 72; Kingfield Elementary, 58; Phillips Elementary, 17; Rangeley Lake Regional School, 14; Solon Elementary 141; Strong Elementary, 71; and W. G. Mallett School, 190. Christian home learners had 21 students attend and 28 other home schooled children attended.

Other counties who sent students includes Embden Elementary from Somerset with 67 students; Livermore Elementary, 85; and Fayette Central from Kennebec with 35.

Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District received a $3,000 grant from the Maine Community Foundation to help offer the Agricultural Day as well as financial support and donations of supplies and materials from several area businesses and organizations.
