BRIDGTON, Mass. – Charles Francis Hartigan, 76, of Bridgton and formerly of Rockland, Mass., died in Portland on Saturday, Oct. 23.
He was born in Boston on Dec. 22, 1927, the son of William J. and Marguerite (Janse) Hartigan and was educated in local schools.
Mr. Hartigan had summered in Windham as a child. He was employed 35 years at Boston Gas and was also the former owner of Hartigan and Sons LP Gas in Rockland, Mass., before retiring to Bridgton 20 years ago.
He married the late Rose MacDonald in 1951 and while in Bridgton, they attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Rose died on Feb. 6, 2002.
He is survived by two sons, Michael Hartigan and his wife, Joan, of Weymouth, Mass., and Paul Hartigan and his wife, Judith, of Rockland, Mass.; three daughters, Charlene Maroney and her husband, Kevin, of Union, Ky.; Lisa Hartigan, of Rockland, Mass., and Denise Surprenant and her husband, Raymond, of Monson, Mass.; three sisters, Eleanor Hartigan, of West Roxbury, Mass., Marie Danca, of Newton, Mass., and Dorothy Yamartino, of Wakefield, Mass.; eight grandchildren; and his beloved companion, Dorothy Farrar, of West Paris.
He was predeceased by one brother, William J. Hartigan Jr.; and two sisters, Eileen Ridgeway and Marguerite Hartigan.
