LEWISTON – Gordon D. Ness, 91, a lifelong resident of Auburn died Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Auburn, May 5, 1913, the son of Dr. John and Jean Ness. He was educated in Auburn schools, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1930, and attended the University of Maine at Orono. He was married Oct. 3, 1942, to Ernestine F. Ham. Prior to founding the family business, Ness Oil Co. in 1955, Mr. Ness worked on the family farm then for the Gulf Oil Co.

He was an active member of the First Universalist Unitarian Church and sang in the church choir for over 50 years, and was also active in the local business community. He was a most loving family man and enjoyed spending his summers with his family at their cottage on Thompson Lake.

He is survived by his wife, of Auburn; a daughter, H. Rebecca Ness, of Cape Elizabeth; two sons, Stephen G. Ness and his wife, Melanie, of Auburn and David A. Ness and his wife, Dianne, of Rollinsford, N.H.; three grandchildren, Kirsten, Geoffrey and Rachel Ness; two sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three brothers, John, Norman and Robert.
