LEWISTON – Charles H. Lavoie, “Charlie,” 96, of Lewiston passed away following a brief illness on Friday, Nov. 12, at d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston.

He was born in Canada on April 19, 1908, the son of Ernest and Claudia Lavoie. He proudly served in the United States Army under General McArthur in the Philippines during World War II. “Charlie” married his lovely bride, Gertrude Corno Lavoie, on July 4, 1935. He and Gertrude ran a successful dairy farm on the Old Lisbon Road for more than 50 years. Together they raised four children and many foster children.

He was an active member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Holy Cross Church in Lewiston. He and Irene, his companion of 12 years, enjoyed weekly dancing at the Lewiston Singles Club. He will be best remembered for his energetic and high-spirited attitude.

He leaves behind Irene Sirois, his loving companion; his four children, Arlene Krysiak, of Arizona, Marie Annette Lavoie, of Massachusetts, Rena Joan Johnson, of Lewiston, and Paul John Lavoie, of Auburn; three of his 15 siblings, Ernest Lavoie, of Lewiston, Helene Gosselin, of Lewiston and Dolores Labonte, of Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by Gertrude, his wife of 50 years, three brothers, and seven sisters.
