NORWAY – The town will be updating records on the condition of local roads so residents may know when they can expect improvements.
Selectman Bob Walker requested the update at a meeting Thursday.
“For the past few months I’ve been getting a lot of comments from people: Well, you’ve done this road and this road and this road – when’s mine going to get done?'” he said.
Walker asked for a list of all town roads with information on their condition and what it would cost for necessary repairs. When people ask about specific roads, he said, “I’m not very comfortable with the I don’t know’ answer.”
Town Manager David Holt said the town used to keep road information on file through the state’s local road records system, “but we haven’t kept that up-to-date in years.”
Road Commissioner Ron Springer said he suggested updating those records rather than creating a new list, as Walker had suggested.
Selectman George Tibbetts Jr. agreed, and Springer was asked to update the system with road conditions and estimated repair costs. The information will then be available through the town office.
Walker, who had written a lengthy letter on the subject and even submitted an example of the form he’d envisioned being filled out for each road, seemed pleased to have the issue addressed so quickly.
“What we’ve accomplished in the last seven years has been astronomically good,” he said, referring to ongoing road improvements. “And because it’s been good, people are saying, When’s mine going to come up?'”
