RUMFORD CENTER – Frank DeSalle, 84, of Rumford Center, died Sunday, Nov. 21, at Rumford Community Home with his loving family at his side.

He was born on Sept. 15, 1920, in Rumford, a son of Nicola and Marie (Giambattista) DeSalle.

Frank was educated in Rumford Schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1938.

He served four years in the U.S. Air Force in the 39th Squadron, 6th Bombardment Group as an Aerial Engineer.

Following the war, Frank was employed as an Arc Welder at the South Portland Shipyard.

He moved back to Rumford in 1948 and owned and operated Freddie’s Barber Shop for 23 years. He then became the tax assessor for the Town of Rumford, a position he held for 17 years, and was also a bail commissioner for many years.

Frank was a communicant of St. Athanasius St. John Catholic Church. He was a member of Rumford Public Service Commission, member and Past President of the Sons of Italy, life member of the Robert Shand Post of the American Legion, life member of the VFW Post 1641, of Rumford, and a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was an avid sports fan who as a kid enjoyed playing football and caddying at Oakdale Country Club.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Amelia “Millie” DeSalle, of Rumford, Ctr. He is also survived by a son, Peter DeSalle and wife, Jean, of Rumford, Ctr., two daughters; Patricia McCann, of Rumford, and Mary DeSalle, of Scarborough; a brother; Michael DeSalle and wife, Gloria, of Rumford; four grandchildren, Christopher DeSalle, and Matthew, Andrew, and Carly McCann.

He was predeceased by a brother, Guido; and a sister, Nancy Veneziano.
