NORWAY – State environmental officials say only about 50 gallons of kerosene was spilled when a fuel truck tipped over on Crockett Ridge Road on Monday.
Initial police reports estimated up to 400 gallons of the fuel had leaked onto the ground. Scott Cyr, an oil and hazardous materials specialist with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, said Tuesday that it appeared not more than 50 gallons were lost.
“The truck held together real well,” Cyr said.
The accident happened about 10:30 a.m. when a Lampron Energy truck driver Timothy Warren, of 39 North Raymond Road, North Raymond, was driving north on Crockett Ridge Road, Norway Patrolman Scott Laliberte said.
Laliberte said the truck tipped into a ditch after Warren pulled too far to the right and the passenger-side tires sunk into the road shoulder. The truck’s fuel tank was punctured as it landed on a stone wall, he said.
