PARIS – A series of programs is being offered to help local nonprofit organizations learn how to write successful grant applications.

• On-board development, will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 17 at the Growth Council office, 150 Main St., South Paris. The program, offered by the Oxford Hills Grant Network, will feature Kathryn Davis, executive director of the Foundation for Sisters of Charity Health System in Lewiston.

Davis has more than 25 years of experience as a nonprofit board member. At the Sisters of Charity, she works with boards and volunteers on all fund-raising activities, including donations, events and grants.

Her volunteer experience led her to join the nonprofit community full-time 15 years ago. She has worked with boards and volunteers as president of the Laudholm Trust and development director at Maine Audubon.

Before joining the nonprofit community, she served as director of UNUM’s corporate marketing and communications division, which included oversight of community relations and the UNUM Charitable Foundation.

• A grant-writing workshop will be offered by Oxford Hills Adult Education from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 27 and Feb. 3 at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. Tuition is $20; to register, people may call 743-8842, extension 1.

The first session will discuss how grants are rated, then examine a typical request for proposals and take a critical look at a grant proposal that was successfully funded. In the second session, participants may bring in the written criteria from funding sources they are interested in for individual assistance on grant proposals.

• The Maine Association of Non-Profits will offer a training event from 9 a.m. to noon on March 18 titled “Successful Grant Proposals: Research Strategies,” at the Western Maine University and Community College Center in South Paris.
