PARIS – The janitorial crew that cleans Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School at night is so large it needs a shift supervisor.

That’s the opinion of Business Manager Cathy Fanjoy, who is recommending that one of the seven custodians working the night shift at the 263,000-square-foot building be given supervisory responsibilities.

“The size of the third shift staff and the size of the facility support the need for a supervisor to ensure that the building is adequately cleaned when students and staff arrive in the morning,” Fanjoy wrote in a memo.

The memo was to be reviewed Monday by the SAD 17 Board of Directors, but that meeting was canceled due to the snowstorm. The meeting has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Jan. 3.

Fanjoy said three custodians and a head custodian work during the day, but most of the larger cleaning jobs are left until 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., when no one else is in the building.

The pay for custodians ranges from $10.83 an hour to $12.44, and custodians working the graveyard shift receive a 17-cent differential.

Fanjoy is recommending that the third shift supervisor receive 59 cents more per hour for the added responsibilities, the same amount of extra pay that the district currently pays to the lead mechanic.

She said the extra cost of the supervisor’s position for January to June is estimated at $566.
