AUBURN – The YMCA pre-kindergarten child care class started reading on Oct. 18 and completed reading its 100th book on Dec. 7. Their reading will result in 100 new books being donated to a deserving charity.

The class reached this goal as a participant in Scholastic Book Clubs ClassroomsCare program. ClassroomsCare is a reading program designed to teach children about the joys of reading and giving.

For each class that reads 100 books by Dec. 31, Scholastic Book Clubs will donate 100 new books to one of its charity partners. This year’s partners are First Book, Reach Out and Read and Save the Children. Each of these organizations will give the books to children in extremely under-resourced schools and communities in the United States.

The YMCA offers a year-round, hands-on developmental child care program for children age 6 weeks to 12 years. The Daisy Garden site is located at 92 Campus Ave. in Lewiston. The Auburn child care facility is located at the YMCA at 62 Turner St.

For more information, call the YMCA at 795-4095 and ask for a child care director.
