LEWISTON – Lucienne E. Roy, 86, formerly of 154 Meadow View Park, Lewiston, died early Saturday morning, Jan. 8 at d’Youville Pavilion, holding hands with her family.

She was born in Lewiston, on Aug. 25, 1918, the daughter of Ernest Poulin and Marie Louise (Rioux) Poulin. She had been a lifelong resident of Lewiston. Lucienne met her husband, Leo E. Roy, at The Roseland, where they were guests at a bridal shower. He taught her to dance, and they danced their way through 45 years of marriage, until his death on All Souls Day, 1987.

She was employed at the Androscoggin Textile Mill for 25 years, and later the Knapp Shoe Manufacturing Co. Her co-workers became her friends, and she and “the girls” shared patterns for knitting afghans and slipper socks, peanut butter fudge, and many card games. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family; whether on fall foliage drives, taking her grandsons to the Shrine Circus, or to Old Orchard for pier fries, “Your grandfather and I would take the train to Old Orchard to dance on the Pier.” Laughing around the dinner table, cooking her specialties, or eagerly watching us prepare recipes from around the world, she would say, “I saw this on the Cooking Channel.” She will be fondly remembered by her friends, and relatives as a caretaker who, even in her final days was concerned about the welfare of others.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gertrude and Paul Timberlake of Lewiston; her grandsons, James of Cambridge, Mass., and Jeffrey of Tucson, Ariz.; sisters-in-law, Priscille Poulin, Jeannette Hain of Auburn, and Jacqueline St. Hilaire of Lewiston.

She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Alice Rioux and Cyrilda Ouellette; and her brother Roland Poulin.
