LIVERMORE FALLS – Trustees of the Livermore Falls Water District continued their efforts Wednesday morning to protect the district’s secondary water source, Parker Pond in East Jay.
The district already has protective measures in effect at Moose Hill Pond, the district’s primary source, but officials are concerned about Parker, as the district draws from it several months of the year. The body is also known as Parkhurst Pond.
In their review of a legal draft, the trustees discussed barring snowmobiles from the pond, as they are at Moose Hill, but agreed it would be unfair, as a major snowmobile trail runs through the area.
The trustees said they would like to designate that trail, and hope that the local snowmobile club would mark it. Board members also indicated that they realize any document must include language to accommodate future state changes.
The board received good news in the year-end budget, which showed a $48,439 balance, with a few minor adjustments anticipated. Savings were seen in purification labor, maintenance labor and repairs to mains.
Superintendent Doug Burdo reported that Charles Lake, a local high school senior, is working on a project for the Livermore Falls Fire Department to map hydrant locations.
The work is being done with a grant and through Lake’s studies at the Foster Vocational/Technical School in Farmington. The information will be shared with the Water District.
Burdo said he is also working on an agreement with the Jay Village Water District and the Livermore Falls Water District.
Trustees reviewed a request for the abatement of a penalty for late payment but denied it, agreeing to adhere to the policy.
