PORTLAND (AP) – Chuck Kobasew scored two goals and added an assist as the Lowell Lock Monsters extended their winning string to five by defeating the Portland Pirates 5-2 on Saturday.
Colin Forbes scored once and collected two assists for Lowell, while Boyd Gordon had a goal and an assist for the Pirates.
The Lock Monsters (22-10-1-3) led 2-0 after the first period as Ryan Bayda scored at 17:02 and Kobasew connected for his first of the night at 19:05.
After Craig MacDonald made it 3-0 at 5:44 of the second period, the Pirates (15-19-3-4) rallied briefly when Gordon scored at 7:35 and Jakub Klepis hit the net 3:07 later.
Kobasew scored his second 1:57 into the third and Forbes made it 5-2 at 8:38.
Lowell’s Brent Krahn made 22 saves to earn the win, while Portland’s Maxime Ouellet had 32.
