WOODSTOCK – A chimney fire damaged the home of Norman Perham at 179 Perkins Valley Road Monday night.
Fire Chief Geffrey Inman said flames were showing around the chimney when the first firefighters arrived following the 4:42 p.m. 911 call.
Perham was home at the time, and was able to get out safely. No one was injured, Inman said.
“We got lucky with this one,” Inman said. “Our mutual aid worked very well.”
A quick response by firefighters made it possible for the fire to be contained to the rafters immediately around the chimney of the two-story home.
Inman said the roof will likely only need to be partially replaced around the chimney.
Greenwood automatically provides mutual aid to Woodstock in the case of structure fires, and did so in this case, Inman said. West Paris also responded, and Bethel, Tri-Town Rescue and Paris provided backup response, he said.
Between 20 and 30 firefighters responded to the home near the top of a hill on a narrow back road.
Firefighters cleaned creosote out of Perham’s chimney. Perham heats with wood, with an oil furnace as a backup, Inman said.
