NORWAY – Bill Damon plans to donate two years of his selectman’s salary to the C.B. Cummings & Sons Mill redevelopment project.
His gift will go directly toward the purchase of a statue in recognition of the Cummings family, he said at a meeting Thursday.
“My father was working in one of those buildings at the mill the day I was born, over 71 years ago,” Damon told residents gathered at the Town Office for a special meeting on the mill project.
He stressed the importance of remembering the Cummings family, not just the former mill.
Damon was paid $1,440 to serve as selectman this fiscal year. His donation could total at least $2,880.
Brett Doney of Western Maine Development, which owns the mill site, said it may take about $1.1 million to redevelop the property for sale to private developers or investors.
