MEXICO – The Region 9 School of Applied Technology board is expected to appoint an engineering/construction firm Wednesday to design a renovation for a portion of the existing school and a six-room addition.
The regular monthly meeting of the vocational school board begins at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room of the school. The Personnel and Finance committees are scheduled to meet prior to the board meeting at 7 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., respectively.
Plans are under way to install an elevator, construct walls between two of the vocational programs, and to build a six-room addition at the rear of the school.
Residents will decide whether to borrow money to pay for the work through a low-interest state program at a referendum vote in March. Cost estimates for the two projects are around $1.5 million.
Other agenda items include acting on whether to hire a National Council on Aging person part-time under the regular school budget, a decision about trying to recoup $3,000 in adult education funds from the region’s member towns, and deciding whether to move the computer technician position from grant funding to the region’s regular budget.
The board will also decide how to solve a fly problem in some classrooms and clarify how to direct a scholarship set up in a former student’s name.
