PARIS – Retired computer consultant Bruce Cook has agreed to serve as interim director of the Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce.
Cook, a member of the chamber’s board of directors, was voted into the position at the board’s Tuesday meeting, he said. As incoming treasurer of the chamber, he said he has been helping out voluntarily in the office since John Williams stepped down as executive director Jan. 3.
As interim director, he will be compensated, chamber President Chris Delamater said.
“We have an arrangement,” said Delamater, who did not specify an amount.
Cook said this is a busy time of year for the chamber, and “the office just can’t run with one person.” The annual dinner meeting and awards ceremony is coming up Feb. 4, and there will be a manufactured housing show in April.
“We’re doing a bunch of mailings right now,” he said.
In addition, a chamber Business After Hours event will be held next week at the new Oxford Hills Funeral Home.
Delamater said the board is in the process of searching for a replacement for Williams, who served in the role of executive director for nearly 11 years. He said it is unlikely a decision on a replacement would be made in time for the Feb. 4 awards dinner.
Delamater said he’s grateful that Cook, a board member since March, is “willing to step up and help us through this period.”
Cook and his wife, Pat, of Norway, moved to the area in 1999. He has worked in computers throughout his career, and more recently worked on a computerization project at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.
