PORTLAND (AP) – Maxime Ouellet stopped 38 shots, while Trent Whitfield scored a goal and added an assist as the Portland Pirates defeated the Worcester IceCats 3-1 Saturday.

Jared Aulin added two assists for the Pirates.

The Pirates (17-20-3-4) enjoyed a 3-0 lead midway through the second period. Jakub Klepis connected on a power play 15:52 into the first period and Owen Fussey netted the eventual game-winning goal at 17:22, skating in alone to beat Worcester goalie Jason Bacashihua.

After Whitfield’s goal made it 3-0 at 4:07 of the second, Konstantin Zhakarov put the IceCats (24-14-2-2) on the scoreboard at 14:28.

Ouellet continues as the AHL leader in total saves with 1,067 on the season. Bacashihua had 24 in the loss.
