BOSTON, Mass. – Jacob C. Rugar, 62, a resident of Danville, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, in Boston after a brief illness, with his wife by his side.

He was born Aug. 13, 1942 in Amsterdam, N.Y., to Jacob and Sophronia (Munn) Rugar. Jacob graduated from Wilber Lynch High School. He later served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963, having traveled to various locations around the world.

On June 29, 1968 he married Suzanne Dampier. In their 36 1/2 years of marriage, they enjoyed their three children and six grandchildren.

In August 1999, after being diagnosed with lymphoma, he made the most of the time that he had with his family.

He was a carpenter working for the New England Regional Council of Carpenters, Local 1996 before retiring in 2001 due to his illness.

He enjoyed yard work and walking through the woods at his home. His favorite times were the years of hunting and fishing he did in the Adirondacks with family and friends. He was very thankful for the many hours he was able to spend with his grandchildren before his passing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Nichole Kaas, her husband, Jon, and their children, Mackenzie, Jon and Kristi of Oxnard, Calif.; his daughter, Joelle Parker and her husband, Jeffrey, and their children Jacob and Jacqueline (Abby) of Veazie; his son, Michael Rugar and his wife, Angela, and their daughter, Amanda, of Lewiston; two sisters, Sandra Peters of Virginia, and Betty Van Arnum, and her husband, John, of Florida; and his brother, D. Charles Rugar and his wife, Patricia, of New York.

He was predeceased by his parents.
