WATERVILLE – Greg McConnell scored a pair of goals to lead Bowdoin to a 5-3 win over Colby in hockey action Tuesday.
The Polar Bears (13-3-3) scored the opening three goals, before Colby’s captain Patrick Walsh put the White Mules (12-6-1) on the board just over a minute into the second period to make it 3-1.
McConnell put the Polar Bears up three goals again at 12:03 of the second period, and returned following a pair Colby goals to clinch things with 2:25 remaining in regulation.
Women’s basketball
Southern Maine 86, UMass-Boston 43
BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Southern Maine snagged its 17th straight victory with an 86-43 decision over the University of Massachusetts Boston Beacons.
The Becons (4-17) jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the opening two minutes, but junior Megan Myles of Auburn broke the ice with a 3-pointer to ignite a 10-0 outburst for Southern Maine. The Huskies (19-2) ballooned the lead with an 11-0 run midway through the half and took a 41-25 lead into the break.
Junior Lydia Coverdale led the Beacons with 12 points, and shared game-high rebound honors with Huskies’ junior Tiffany Jones with eight.
CMRI 93, CMCC 45
AUBURN – Jeanell Hughes and Amanda Ward combined for a blistering 52 points to catapault the Community College of Rhode Island to a 93-45 win over the Central Maine Community College in women’s basketball action Tuesday.
The Mustangs trailed 41-23 at the break.
Nicole Hutchinson recorded 15 points for CMCC, while Kathrine Vincent and Ashley Woolford tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively.
