What is President Bush thinking? He is pouring billions of dollars into Iraq and sending our soldiers over there at a huge cost to us.
In Maine, Bath Iron Works stands to choke and possibly go under if the proposed cuts to the Navy budget go through. As one of the largest employers in the state, we should all be thinking about the direct impact this could have on Maine.
It’s time our elected senators and congressmen got together on the same page and saved the jobs in this state. They need to enlist the help of the other senators and congressmen to stop wasting money in Iraq, keep our military programs strong and not to let our military fall behind in new technology and ships.
If we are going to stay in Iraq, then it’s time for Iraq to pay us to police their country. They have huge reserves of oil that can be traded off for services by our military.
Most important, get our troops out and stop wasting this country’s money. We are not the world police, and we are not a huge charity with endless monies to give to other countries.
Jim Rioux, Sabattus
