LEWISTON – Roland J. Moreau, 83, of 211 Randall Road, died Friday morning, March 4, at Central Maine Medical Center with his family at his side.
He was born in Chisolm on April 30, 1921, a son of Francois and Josephine Dumais Moreau. He was educated in Chisolm schools, and had since been a lifelong resident of that community.
He was a military veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On Feb. 23, 1946, he married the former Theresa B. Lacasse.
He worked 43 years at the Bates Mill, until his retirement in 1984. After retiring he continued to work part-time as a custodian at Rainbow Federal Credit Union.
He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul’s Parish, the DAV, and was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council No.106. Among his favorite enjoyments were spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and often reminiscing about his time in the war. He was also considered quite a prankster by his family, as he would often pull pranks on or joke around with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Theresa Moreau, of Lewiston; a daughter, Doris Page and her husband, Robert, of Ste. Seraphine, P.Q., Canada; two sons, Philippe Moreau and his wife, Anne, of Greene, and Paul Moreau of Lewiston; eight grandchildren, Andrew, James and Elizabeth Moreau, Lillian Houde and her husband, Francois, Roland Page, Daniel Page and his wife, Sandra, Michael Page and his wife, Melanie, and Suzanne Page and her companion, Francisco; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jeannette Pomerleau of Livermore.
He was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters, Arthur Moreau, Bertha Castonguay, Alphonse Moreau, Ida Paradis, Victor Moreau, Francois Moreau, Arthur Moreau and Normand Moreau.
